چکیده

Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is the most widely available technique for ablation of Barrett’s esophagus. When the argon plasma is applied, thermal injury to the epithelium results. The depth of injury is the function of the voltage, the gas flow, and the pressure applied to the probe. A series of 32 patients with high-grade dysplasia were treated with APC with 34 months of follow-up. Dysplasia

In Vitro and in Vivo studies of the Effects of Cold Argon Plasma on Decreasing the Coagulation Time

Introduction Cold plasma is a self-sterilized, painless, and non-contact method in surgeries. These properties allow it to be applied to the living tissues and heat-sensitive parts. The aim of this study was to design a new cold plasma producer device and evaluate the effects of cold argon plasma on decreasing the coagulation time of blood drop in vitro and that of the injured liver blood in vi...

CASE REPORT Intramucosal adenocarcinoma arising under squamous re-epithelialisation of Barrett’s oesophagus

Background—Eradication of Barrett’s mucosa by thermal or photoablation combined with high doses of proton pump inhibitors is a potentially attractive strategy in the management of this preneoplastic condition. However, major concerns of this method are the persistence of residual metaplastic glands beneath the new squamous epithelium and the absence of any knowledge of its impact on long term o...

Endoscopic Therapy for Early Esophageal Neoplasia

Endoscopic treatment of early esophageal neoplasia has widely been established in gastroenterology. It has been shown to be effective and safe also in the long-term follow-up, and it is – in contrast to the previous goldstandard, which is esophageal resection – organ preserving. There is no treatment-related mortality and a very low morbidity. In early Barrett’s neoplasia, the two-step concept ...

Endoscopic placement of esophageal prostheses for inoperable carcinoma of esophagus.

In Pakistan, carcinoma of the esophagus ranks as the 5th commonest tumour in females and 9th in males. At our centre we see about 20-25 cases of malignant dysphagia each year. In most, the etiology is squamous cell carcinoma with only 2% occurrence of adenocarcinoma secondary to Barrett’s esophagus. Though surgical results with transhiatal esophagectomy have improved over the past decade with b...

Band ligation of a T1 esophageal squamous cell cancer in a patient with multimorbidities.

Endoscopic band ligation without resection is a technique reported in the literature for the treatment of subepithelial neuroendocrine tumors and Barrett’s esophagus, but its use in the treatment of T1 cancer has not been reported [1–4]. We present a case of T1 esophageal cancer in a patient with contraindications for surgery treated endoscopically using banding without resection. A 74-year-old...
